CEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW FOLLOWING UNILATERAL CAROTID ARTERY OCCLUSION: An Experimental Study
نویسنده
چکیده
In this study, 26 white New Zealand rabbits weighing between 2-3.5kg were used. Anaesthesia was induced with 1.5glkg urethane intraperitoneally. The ear vein was canulated and an intravenous supply was provided. The femoral artery was catheterized and used to monitor blood pressure. The haemodynamic effects of carotid artery occlusion are not well known. Therefore occluded carotid artery causes some anxiety in various conditions. for example during carotid endarterectomy, and some surgeons prefer to use internal shunt. Some other preventive methods are the measurement of stump pressure and monitoring of cerebral blood flow (CBF)by EEG (11,12). Occlusion of the carotid artery for 15minutes is thought to be well tolerated by patients. and the period might even be lengthened to 30 minutes (1).The results are not known well in longer occlusion than this.

A Lumped Parameter Method to Calculate the Effect of Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion on Anterior Cerebral Artery Pressure Waveform
Background and Objective: Numerical modeling of biological structures would be very helpful tool to analyze hundreds of human body phenomena and also diseases diagnosis. One physiologic phenomenon is blood circulatory system and heart hemodynamic performance that can be simulated by utilizing lumped method. In this study, we can predict hemodynamic behavior of one artery of circulatory system (...
متن کاملHemispheric blood flow in the rat after unilateral common carotid occlusion: evolution with time.
Acute occlusion of one common carotid artery in the anesthetized normocapnic rat results in a moderate cerebral blood flow (CBF) decrease in both cerebral hemispheres. No asymmetrical perfusion is observed when the overall flow in each hemisphere is considered. The increase in blood flow which normally occurs in hypercapnia is strongly impaired in the cerebral hemisphere on the occluded side re...
متن کاملA comprehensive cerebrovascular simulation model for teaching and research
A comprehensive mathematical model of cerebral hemodynamics, with separate regulation of multiple brain regions, is presented. The main sectors included in the model are: the Circle of Willis, the hemodynamic circulation in the six districts perfused by the cerebral arteries, venous return with collapsible veins, cerebrospinal fluid circulation, and intracranial elasticity. Furthermore, each ce...

Objective(s):The present study investigated the effect of long-term mild cerebral hypoperfusion induced by permanent unilateral (right) common carotid artery occlusion (UCO) on the dorsal hippocampal neurons in rats. Materials and Methods:Sixty four male Sprague-Dawley rats aged 4 months were divided into two groups of sham and UCO. These two groups were further divided into 4 sets of histopath...
متن کاملImprovement in Cerebral and Ocular Hemodynamics Early after Carotid Endarterectomy in Patients of Severe Carotid Artery Stenosis with or without Contralateral Carotid Occlusion
Purpose. To investigate the alternation in cerebral and ocular blood flow velocity (BFV) in patients of carotid stenosis (CS) with or without contralateral carotid occlusion (CO) early after carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Patients and Methods. Nineteen patients underwent CEA for ≥50% CS. Fourteen patients had the unilateral CS, and five patients had the ipsilateral CS and the contralateral CO. T...
